Once upon a time there lived a rabbit and a bear. Rabbit lived in his burrow and Bear in his lair, close by.
In the autumn, Rabbit started storing food. When winter came, his larder overflowed with carrots, cabbages and turnips. Rabbit was both prudent and greedy!
Great Bear was greedy too, but most of all he was lazy and didn’t store any food at all.
One day on returning home, Rabbit found his larder almost bare. “There goes that thief of a Bear !” he shouted angrily. “He’s so lazy that he steals my food instead of foraging for his own. That’s enough !” But how can a small rabbit confront a great bear ? Rabbit sprang out of his burrow and rushed over to see his friend Frog.
Frog was sitting next to the pond with his eye on a dragonfly. “I’m in big trouble !” complained Rabbit. “What trouble ?” asked Frog. “Great Bear is stealing my vegetables and I have almost nothing left for the winter... What can I do to make him stop thieving from my larder ?” “I am only a frog ! Let’s ask Squirrel..."
