When Jesus lived among us, He spoke to many people and taught them about God’s love. He told them that it was very important that we love our neighbor and care for one another.
One of the people listening to Jesus asked who should be considered a neighbor. Jesus wanted the people to know that we are all God’s children and we are all neighbors to those in need. Often, Jesus would teach using stories. The Good Samaritan is a story about loving your neighbor. Here is the story Jesus told:
A man was traveling along the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was alone on the road when suddenly he was surrounded by robbers.
The robbers took the man’s money. They beat him up. Then, they left him lying on the side of the road, all alone and hurting.
Shortly afterwards, a priest came by and saw the beaten traveler. The traveler made the priest nervous, so the priest crossed to the other side of the road and kept walking.
After the priest walked off, another man, a Levite, saw the beaten traveler.Just like the priest had before him, the Levite crossed to the other side of the road and kept walking.
