Extrait du livre David and Goliath
This is the story of a young man named David. David had many brothers and was the youngest of them all. The King of their country was a man named Saul. Saul was King of Israel and he and his people were known as Israelites. In this story, the Israelites were at war with another group of people known as the Philistines.
When the Philistine army gathered for war against Israel , King Saul called on his people to fight. Three of David’s brothers went to fight, but David was too young. So instead, David traveled back and forth between visiting his brothers and tending his father’s sheep.
It came to pass that each army was camped on opposite sides of a valley. The Philistines were atop a hill on one side of the valley and the Israelites were atop a hill on the other side. Both armies were making plans for war.
One of the Philistines was a giant named Goliath. Goliath was over nine feet tall and had armor made of bronze that covered most of his body. He was a big, scary guy. Every day, Goliath would march out and shout to the Israelites: “Choose any man to come fight me. If he is able to fight and kill me, then we will become your subjects; but if I am able to fight and kill him, then you will become our subjects!” When King Saul and his army saw Goliath and heard his challenge, they were all terrified. It got even scarier when Goliath came out every morning and everyevening for the next 40 days and made this same challenge. Then, one day, David heard him.
