Simple Simon
Simple Simon met a pie man going to the fair. The pie man said, I hear you’re simple. Said Simon, Hey, that’s not fair!
I may not know how to bake a cake, or cook a tasty pie. But how would you know how I am? For very clever am I!
Said the pie man, Show me then. Prove you’re witty and bright. If you do a trick, I will bow to you. I will not put up a fight.
So, Simon paused to think a bit. He put his mind to use. And quickly Simon hatched a plan; a very clever ruse.
Simon said, Give me half a pie, and I’ll give half back to you. And with two halves you’ll have a whole. Would you agree that’s true?
The pie man said, Sounds right to me. But I don’t see a trick. So, here’s the half a pie from me. Now give the half back, quick!
But Simon broke the half in two and gave just half-a-half. And when the pie man saw the trick, he burst out with a laugh.
Why Simon, you can keep that pie. I see now you are clever. And I will not call you Simple Simon, today, tomorrow, or ever.
