The secret of the stars
One night, Moko couldn't sleep. He was looking up at the sky, it was sprinkled with stars, and the moon was there in the middle of it, like a bright twinkling smile. "Where do stars come from? " he asked himself.
Suddenly, a burst of light flashed out from behind the mountains. A shooting star. "Hey." said Moko to himself "What if the stars live behind the mountains!" "I should go there and find out". And so Moko started off, his heart full of hope.
The moon, a crescent of light, lit his way.
But, on reaching the mountain top, Moko was so tired he drifted off to sleep. The morning sun rose, then later night returned. Moko slept through it all.
A noise awakened him. It was the crackle of fire. Moko drew closer, and saw an old woman, blowing on the embers with all her might. Each time she blew on the glowing wood, sparks flew up from it. They climbed up towards the heavens and some of them, caught in the breeze, became stars. Moko concluded that this woman was making the stars. That night became magical to Moko's eyes and to his heart.
