Caillou At the Zoo
Caillou and his family were going to the zoo. Caillou was excited and full of questions. “Do the animals have families too? Do they live in houses like we do?” Daddy smiled. “You’ll see.”
Zoe, the zookeeper, greeted them at the gate. “Welcome to the zoo,” she said. “We’re happy you’re here today because lots of our animal families have had babies. Would you like to see some baby wolves first?” “Yes!” Caillou answered. “We want to see all the animals.”
Caillou looked and looked, but he didn’t see the wolves. “Where are the baby wolves?” he asked. He really wanted to see them. “The wolves live in a den in the ground,” Zoe told him. “Look over there. Can you see the baby wolves sticking their noses out?”
“But why don’t they come out?” asked Caillou. “They were just born a few days ago,” Zoe explained, “so they want to stay with their mommy.” Caillou was sad that all he could see of the baby wolves were their noses.
