Louise, le vent de la liberté

A young girl in search of freedom in 1920s Brittany. An epic novel.

The wind blows hard across the moors as Louise flees her cousin’s wedding and her mother’s sudden decision to marry her off.

And a wind of rebellion sweeps her away when she is assaulted by two men who call her a “bastard.” Louise then decides to defy the fate of submission reserved for girls and set out on a quest to discover her origins.

With the support of her aunt Blanche, a unionized factory worker; Rose, a socially conscious schoolteacher; and Constance, a Parisian fashion designer unbound by convention, she gains financial independence. Thanks to their friendship and the role models of strong women they provide, Louise is now carried by the wind of freedom.

In a society caught between tradition and modernity, Louise’s story is part of the women’s emancipation movement that followed World War I.
