A Picnic in the rain
Drip, drop... It’s been raining all morning. That settles it—the Snail family is going on its first picnic of the year. They get everything ready in no time: the basket of food, the blanket, and the children’s water toys.
Leo is so excited, he even lets Margot dress him—and Margot is so excited, she forgets to dress herself!
Let’s go! Mommy and Daddy lead the way. Thank goodness the weather is cooperating. (That’s always a worry when you’re having a picnic.)
On the way, Margot and Leo sing: It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old frog is snoring. He got into bed, and bumped his head, and couldn’t get up in the morning.
“This is the perfect spot for a picnic,” say Mommy and Daddy. But just as they spread out the blanket, the rain stops!
The clouds disappear. The sun comes out and makes the puddles sparkle. What a disappointment for Margot and Leo!
Mommy and Daddy look at each other questioningly. The sunshine has really rained on their parade. There must be something they can do. No, they conclude, there isn’t. Everybody knows that you can’t have a picnic on a sunny day. Glumly, Margot and Leo gather their things.
